The Mexican Fisherman and You!

On a beautiful, warm day twenty-five years ago, I looked out the window of my beachfront villa in Bali. As I ate some snake fruit, I watched several fishermen knee-deep in water, catching fish.

My phone rang, and my friend Michael, one of the original founding officers of FedEx, said hello.

We talked for a while about Legendary Leadership, a passion of his, and the fisherman I was watching. He asked if I had heard the story of the Mexican Fisherman? No, what’s that about? I asked inquisitively.

Michael proceeded to tell me this story.

Message from White Eagle – Recited by Pierce Brosnan

In the face of such uncertainty, it has never been more important for us to think, create, and imagine a better future.

We may be confined to our houses at the moment, but our imaginations are still free to dream, create, and collaborate.

I read this poem, this prayer a few weeks ago by White Eagle, a Hopi indigenous elder —which inspired my friend and documentary filmmaker Thom Zimny to create this short film scored by Ron Aiello.

Designer Bill Bensley’s Playful, Over-the-top Hotels

Bill Bensley, who grew up in the shadow of Disneyland, is one of the most famous hotel designers in Asia, having designed more than 200 hotels in 30 countries.

His “maximalist” projects reflect his personality: playful, colorful, and sometimes way over-the-top. Ben Tracy visits some of Bensley’s work, from a luxury tented camp inside the largest rainforest in Cambodia, to the Siam Hotel in Bangkok, a black-and-white temple to Thai history.

The Good Life

World’s Longest Study of Health, Success, & Happiness

Harvard’s Grant & Glueck study tracked the physical and emotional well-being of 268 male graduates from Harvard, as well as 456 poor men growing up in Boston from 1939 to 2014. Multiple generations of researchers analyzed brain scans, blood samples, self-reported surveys and interactions of these men to compile their findings.

The conclusions are simple. Close relationships can make or break a person’s well-being, according to Robert Waldinger, Harvard professor of psychology and director of the center behind the study.
