Most people underestimate the power of communication — and how it can spiral us up or drag us down.
It’s not just about the words we speak or hear. Communication is the exchange of ideas, knowledge, emotion, attention, and interest.
But here’s the problem:
We start things… and don’t finish them.
These incomplete cycles of action quietly drain our energy, scatter our focus, and keep us from being fully present.
The Cost of Incomplete Cycles
Every open loop, an unfinished task, a conversation left hanging, a decision postponed, occupies subconscious attention.
The more open loops we have:
- The less mental bandwidth we have for important things
- The easier it is to get distracted
- The more mistakes we make
- The more tired, unfocused, and overwhelmed we feel
It’s like having dozens of apps running in the background on your phone, eventually, it crashes.
The Way Out: Complete the Cycle
Productivity is a measure of completed cycles of action.
Every time you start and finish something, beginning, middle, and end, you get a hit of dopamine and serotonin.
You feel fulfilled. Successful. Energized.
That momentum spirals you upward.
Action Plan to Close Your Loops
- Make a Master List – Write down every incomplete action or conversation you can think of.
- Identify the Top 10 – Reorder by most return for the least effort.
- Complete Them in Order – Finish the first 10 before moving on to the next 10.
- Get Help if Needed – Stuck? Ask someone who’s done it before to help you complete it.
- Repeat the Cycle – Keep closing loops to keep your attention and energy free.
Your life force increases with every completed cycle.
