Renaissance for Leaders

Exploring leadership & human performance

Money or Relationship: Symptom or Cause?

We have all heard it before. When a relationship fails, it is often stated that money problems caused the failure.

In many cases this is true, one partner loses their job or runs up unknown debts, which leads to relationship disharmony and eventually breakup or divorce. But what if there were a rarely discussed, often avoided cause that preceded the symptoms and was in fact the “real” culprit?

Your Primary Relationship Sets the Tone

Your primary relationship influences and often sets the tone for all other relationships in life… at work, partners, friends, clients, etc. IT ALSO DETERMINES HOW SUCCESSFUL YOU ARE FINANCIALLY.

Most people don’t realize that the quality of their relationships = the quality of their lives. There is a direct correlation between a person’s level of happiness, success, financial prosperity, overall well-being and their primary relationship…

Productivity in a Masculine/Feminine Partnership

In an ideal scene, both partners would equally develop their masculine and feminine characteristics.

The purpose of this article is to highlight one of the oldest and most pervasive dramas that exist between men and women, and to provide a roadmap of what to do to get out of what we refer to as the “plot.”

When we talk of the plot, we are referring to the story or interrelated sequence of events that exists between two or more people. The nature of a plot is that it takes a minimum of two sides in order to exist. When one side decides to exit the plot and takes the necessary steps to do this, the plot can no longer exist. Therefore, if a plot is existing, then both sides are contributing to it.

Who is On Your Team?

The difference between the leader who struggles all the time, has no free time, is surrounded by drama solving crises after crises and the leader who appears to have lots of free time, makes more money each year and seems to have the golden touch — is the team that they are a part of.

You are only as good as your team!

And your team isn’t limited to your employees. Who is on your board of directors? Do you have a formal board of advisors? Do you have a personal mentor or coach? These are people who will tell you what you need to hear versus what you want to hear.

Unless you are willing to be surrounded by people who expect more of you than you do, you will have people telling you what you want to hear and confirming that you are right — when you may be wrong.

Your team can also include your suppliers and customers.

If you aren’t part of a winning team — then you are working too hard.

The leader of the company is the key person whose vision, energy, drive and enthusiasm (or lack of it) is the vital element, Lifeforce, and driving force behind the company and everything it does. A change at the top is reflected throughout the organization.

For most leaders, the responsibilities, fast-paced work environments, and constant challenges create a lot of stress and pressure to perform at higher and higher levels.

Who do you go to for support?

Who do you go to when there are conflicts and upsets with colleagues? How do you balance your work life with your family life? How does the work you take home impact your family?

Most leaders bottle all these conflicting agendas and emotions within themselves, causing additional stress and potential burnout. The world’s best athletes, actors, and musicians all have coaches to fine tune their performance, motivate them, keep them in check and in balance and provide a sounding board for ideas and problem solving.

Likewise, an executive coach can provide you with a competitive edge, sounding board and general counsel for problem solving. Traditional therapists, counselors, and psychologists don’t work for most leaders, as their knowledge of business and organizations is limited.

Optima’s Executive Coaching Service is a very discrete support provided by experienced former executives who are highly trained in leadership, coaching, business and personal development.

How to Feel More Beautiful

True Beauty

What would happen to your life if you surrounded
yourself with all things beautiful?

What does it mean to be beautiful? Beauty is something that we all recognize instinctively. Even three-month-old babies smile longer at faces that appear more attractive.

Most of us would agree that beauty is pleasing to the senses and to be beautiful means to possess qualities that give great pleasure to see, hear, touch, feel or to think about. In other words, these qualities delight our senses.

So seductive are the charms of beauty that we spend huge amounts of money with reckless abandon at the slightest hope of looking younger, fresher, more attractive. This has spawned a huge industry that is often criticized as shallow, self-indulgent and materialistic. Increased mental health issues are blamed on massive advertising spending that encourages an obsession with looks, youth, and attractiveness. Most religions promote a more austere, conservative outlook more focused on the life after death than the pursuit of beauty, seduction and aesthetic.

Thirteen Tips to Be a Net Energy Generator

emotionally bankrupt means you put out less

In this article, you will discover thirteen tips
to be a Net Energy Generator!

Imagine a battery that increases in power when you use it and decreases when you don’t. Wouldn’t that be amazing? Well, the incredible news is that you have such a battery… an emotional one!

This is how emotions work. The more you express or use them – the more they grow and the more energy you have. When you withhold, contain or suppress them the less energy you have.

This is why some people end up being emotionally bankrupt. They stop putting out or giving and end up taking. They say little which forces the other people around them to give by way of saying more to fill the empty space. Their emotional battery is empty. In other words they are emotionally bankrupt.

Emotionally bankrupt means you put out less than you receive. The key to success in life is to be a net generator of energy…

Whenever you give more than you receive, you are communicating to yourself, the world around you and other people that you believe in abundance. Regardless of your financial status or position in society, it is possible to generate more energy than you receive. Eventually the excess giving creates a vacuum that can’t help but flow back to you.

This positive flow back can be in the form of good luck, energy or good old CASH. Personally I have experienced all three. I find myself easily being in the right place at the right time… people respond positively to me and make huge efforts to give me what I am asking for. Sometimes without me even saying anything. Yup, sounds hokey, but it is true.

I was at my favorite restaurant in Beverly Hills the other day and ordered my usual organic chicken soup for lunch. The restaurant is also in Paris and when there, I like to order what they call a chicken Pot-au-feu and it comes automatically with Harissa (Tunisian hot chili pepper paste). So this day in Beverly Hills I thought of Harissa but didn’t say anything, in fact I didn’t even know if they had Harissa! Can you guess what happened? The waiter brought my usual chicken soup and without saying a word brought a jar of Harissa! Wow. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

If you are wondering if that is an isolated incident, I can assure you I have had too many experiences like this to count…

Most people think that emotions are like any other scarce resource that must be held back, saved and conserved. This is so wrong! Emotions are nothing like scarce resources, in fact they operate by different rules.

These rules can be learnt. Applied and if you do, you will experience an almost immediate increase in energy and wellbeing. Little by little you will become more and more lucky. How does that sound?

Thirteen tips to be a net energy generator:

  1. Tell people what you like about them or what they did.
  2. Greet people with enthusiasm.
  3. Smile.
  4. Give heartfelt appreciation whenever people give you something or do something for you.
  5. Use people’s names – they love it!
  6. Offer sincere and heartfelt compliments when they do something special or look exceptionally great.
  7. Show an interest in people’s lives and notice when they are not happy or are having a bad day.
  8. Ask how people are doing and listen when they tell you.
  9. Pay larger than normal tips to service staff.
  10. Always give more than you receive.
  11. Minimize complaining, and if you do complain, offer a solution.
  12. Leave every conversation or environment better off than when you found it.
  13. Look for the good purpose in every situation, regardless of how negative it may appear.

Good luck and here is to more energy! XOXO

Run Your Finances Like a Business

Most people don’t realize it, but you are a business – money comes in and goes out.  You sell something for which you receive payment.  As an employee, you sell your time for money.  As a business owner, you are an employee of the company and receive dividends when the company makes a profit or sells.

Wherever your income comes from, it goes into your bank account and is then spent on living, investing for the future, paying interest (if you have loans), hiring people (like maids,) investing in education, etc.

A business’s financial goal is to generate sufficient profit commensurate with capital investment, minimize the risk of loss, and maximize future profits.

In a business, you have several financial statements that tell you the health and viability of your business; these are:

  1. Balance Sheet (a snapshot of where you are at a given point in time.)
  2. Income & Expenses Statement (your total income minus total expenses reflecting your profit/loss)
  3. Aging Debtors & Creditors Statement (this is reflected in the Balance Sheet, and details who owes you and when it is/was due, and who you owe and when it is/was due.)
  4. Cash Flow Statement (tracks when money comes in and when it is due to be paid out.)

Without the above financial statements, it is impossible to properly manage a business—especially one that is growing fast. Most small business owners manage their finances ad hoc, going from crisis to crisis. This does not work and is very stressful. In a large business, the company hires a team of accountants and bookkeepers who report to a financial controller who oversees this vital area. In a small business, the owner/manager gets to it in order of which emergency comes first.

The key to taking charge of your personal finances is to run them like a business.  The primary document that includes all the above financial statements for a company is the PERSONAL FINANCIAL STATEMENT (PFS.)

8 Key Benefits of a PFS:

  1. It tells you where you are financially at a given point in time. Are you reaching your goals? Are you moving forward or backward? Is it time to cut losing investments?
  2. It tells you how much you owe (debt) and how much you are paying in interest.
  3. It tells you what your estimated net worth is.
  4. Tracks how much you are spending, versus what you are earning.
  5. Identifies where you are spending your money and what your lifestyle is costing you.
  6. Identifies financial habits and beliefs that do not support you.
  7. Sets the stage to establish clear financial goals and track your progress.
  8. Facilities evaluation of current and new investments versus your financial status and goals.

Struggle vs FLOW

Discover five simple steps to create your own luck!

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to be luckier than others? Maybe you feel lucky. Congratulations! Or, on the other hand, perhaps you feel that lady luck never comes knocking on your door.

I have often wondered what luck is and if there is a way to change my luck. I have spent a lot of time and energy pursuing answers to that question.

I grew up in a good, hard-working family that never seemed to have much luck. Life was challenging and a constant battle for survival. Money was hard to come by, and outside forces were constantly wreaking havoc on our dairy farm, animals, and finances. There were diseases, bugs, floods, and droughts, and it felt like a never-ending onslaught of bad luck. No wonder people connected to the land can develop a sense of superstition that some outside force is against us. All external forces have an observable effect on our quality of life.

You Will Learn So Fast
It Will Blow Your Mind!

We all have at least one thing in common: we started life as a baby and grew into an adult!

Consider for a moment how we learned as children. We touched everything, tasted everything, played with everything, asked questions about everything. All our senses were engaged in a process of discovering the world around us.

Then we went through formal education and learned to sit still for hours. We learned that the teacher expected certain answers, even if our experience of the world was different from the answer they were asking for. We learned to fit in, be good and do as we were told.

Well some of us learned these things!

Hyper-Speed Experiential Learning is all about including the whole person in the process and discovering the answers vs being told what is a right answer and what is a wrong answer. It’s about including all the senses in the experience and inspiring the student to think, feel and operate holistically and to include their; spiritual, mental, emotional and physical selves.

The above diagram demonstrates what is possible in terms of retention of information based on the mode of learning. It is obvious to most people that the more actively engaged a student is and the more of themselves that are included in the experience the more they learn and the less they forget.

Let’s bring back the joy of learning!

At Goldzone Education, we believe that the world has changed so fast that traditional ways of teaching and learning are too slow and ineffective. People of all ages are immersed in high-definition movies, television, video games, giant monitors, instant messaging, smartphones, and smartwatches.

Our methods of teaching, delivering content and
learning has got to change with the times.

We need exciting content and teachers who inspire us to make changes, be the best we can be and to realize our full potential.

Every Goldzone program we deliver uses small group discussions, massive video screens, nightclub quality surround sound, laser lights, image reinforcement, captivating images, inspiring videos, the most beautiful smells and most important of all dynamic facilitation.

It is never boring!

Large corporations have the budgets to invest in one-off learning environments for their corporate training, however few of them build purpose built classrooms on this scale. As for small and medium businesses, they are mostly out of reach. Our vision is to change that. We need better quality programs and learning environments for the hundreds of millions of small businesses around the world. think of the possible impact…

We also need to unlearn old ideas, thoughts, and information that is no longer relevant. Read more about unlearning and “clean slate” > here.

8 Primary Motivations for Leading

8 Primary Motivations to lead

Leadership choices are made every day and yet very little thought is really put into considering the worthiness of the leader.

Too often a leader is chosen by default because no one else wants the responsibility.

The most suitable leader should have the right combination of a desire to make a difference, experience, skill, attitude and ability.

If someone is motivated by power, status, control or greed their decisions, actions and thought processes will be based on their own ego and what’s in it for them – and not necessarily what is right for their stakeholders.

Who wants to follow a leader who is motivated primarily by self-interest? Unless of course your interest is aligned with theirs. We call that mutual self-interest.

The best leaders know when to lead and when to follow.  If a leader is motivated by not wanting to follow, then they will insist on leading – even when they are clearly not the best suited for the role.  The end result is suboptimal compared to the right person leading.

Next time you are choosing a leader, consider these eight motivations and don’t listen to what they say.  Consider their past actions and results as good indicators of future results.
