The Economic Burden of Chronic Disease

“More than half of Americans suffer from one or more chronic diseases. Each year millions of people are diagnosed with chronic disease, and millions more die from their condition. By our calculations, the most common chronic diseases are costing the economy more than $1 trillion annually – and that figure threatens to reach $6 trillion by the middle of the century.

“Yet much of this cost is avoidable. This failure to contain the containable is undermining prospects for extending health insurance coverage and for coping with the medical costs of an aging population. The rising rate of chronic disease is a crucial but frequently ignored contributor to growth in medical expenditures.”

Stop Managing and Start LEADING!

“People don’t want to be managed. They want to be led. Whoever heard of a world manager? World leader, yes. Educational leader. Political leader. Religious leader. Scout leader. Community leader. Labor leader. Business leader. They lead. They don’t manage. The carrot always wins over the stick. Ask your horse. You can lead your horse to water, but you can’t manage him to drink. If you want to manage somebody, manage yourself. Do that well and you’ll be ready to stop managing and start leading.”

The People You Meet

Each day we meet many people for the first and last time. We will never see them again – and they will never see us again, either. The larger the city or country we live in, the more this happens. The smaller the place we live in, the more likelihood we have of meeting again. However, regardless of where we live – there is one person you have to live with everyday… and that is yourself. If you do something that isn’t 100% – the people you meet may not know. You will know – and can’t forget. Make yourself proud.

The Last Day of Your Life…

Most people live as if they will be around forever… Today could be the last day of your life. If you knew that you wouldn’t wake up tomorrow – what would you do differently today?

Low Fat Diets Can Make You Depressed

New research has indicated that there is a link between drastically cutting down on all types of fat and an increase in the symptoms of depression.

We Are All Stars!

Most people don’t realize that we are made of the same material as the stars. If you go back in time far enough, the matter that makes up our bodies was part of an ancient star… and if you go far enough into the future – we will all become part of a future star, too!

Passion is Powerful

Passion is powerful…
Nothing was ever achieved without it,
and nothing can take it’s place.

No matter what you face in life,
if your passion is great enough
you will find the strength to succeed.

Without passion, life has no meaning.
So, put your heart, mind, and soul
into even your smallest acts…
This is the essence of passion.

This is the secret to Life.

Consumer vs. Connoisseur

“A consumer buys what others would want to buy; a connoisseur buys what he or she wants to buy.”

Repression Is Not the Way to Virtue

“Repression is not the way to virtue. When people restrain themselves out of fear, their lives are by necessity diminished. They become rigid and defensive, and their self stops growing. Only through freely choosing discipline can life be enjoyed, and still kept within the bounds of reason. If a person learns to control his instinctual desires, not because he has to, but because he wants to, he can enjoy himself without becoming addicted.”
